Quick Start Guide

Welcome to the GeoGenesisLE Quick Start Guide. Here you will learn how to load geospatial data, display the data, and export imagery to your preferred formats.

Step 1: Launch the software

 

Step 2: Load geospatial data

To load geospatial data, seled File > Load Data and select the files you wish to load. You will see a progress bar updating as the data is loaded and statistics are calculated from the input data. Press Play on the movie below to see how it's done.

You may load imagery in the following formats:

  • Tiff/GeoTIFF
  • NITF
  • JPG/JPEG2000
  • ERDAS Imagine (.img)
  • ENVI (.img)
  • MrSID
  • ECW
  • EOSAT Fast Format
  • PNG
  • RPF (A.TOC)
  • DIMAP
  • BMP

You may load elevation data stored in the following formats

  • DTED
  • USGS DEM
  • USGS SDTS DEMs
  • SRTM (.hgt)
  • Gtopo30
  • GeoTIFF
  • ArcInfo ASCII Grid
  • ArcInfo Binary Grid

You may load vector data stored in the following formats

  • ESRI Shapefile
  • Wavefront OBJ
  • GPX (GPS Exchange Format)
  • OpenFlight
  • Microstation DGN

 

Step 3: Locate your data on the globe

To see where your geospatial data is located on the globe, first expand the hiearchy in the Session Explorer to see the data you have loaded. To expand the hierarchy for Images, DEMs, or Vectors simply click the + next to the data type. Next double click the filename in the Session Explorer and the GlobalViewer will roam to the location of your data where you will see its bounding box displayed. Press Play on the movie below to see how it's done.

 

Step 4: Launch the GIS Viewer

To launch the GIS Viewer, select View > GIS Viewer from the main toolbar. You may then dock the viewer and toggle between the GIS Viewer and GlobalViewer as desired. Press play on the movie below to see how it's done.

 

Step 5: Drag and Drop data into the GIS Viewer

To view your geospatial data, simply drag and drop the filenames from the Session Explorer into the GIS Viewer. Press play on the movie below to see how it's done.

 

Step 6: Export your data

To export imagery, elevation, or vector data simply right click on the data filename in the Session Explorer and select Export. Press play on the movie below to see how it's done.

 

Other Helpful Tips

Show Borders in GlobalViewer

In the GeoGenesisLE GlobalViewer you may toggle on and off global country borders to enhance situational awareness. To do so, simply right-click in the Global Viewer and select Show Borders. You may also toggle on and off imagery, elevation, and vector data boundaries. Press play on the movie below to see how it's done.

Generate Overviews for Enhanced Data Visualization

To optimize performance in the GIS Viewer, you may generate overviews for your raster data. These overviews will enhance your data visualization experience, specifically for larger images. To do so, simply right click on the filename in the Session Explorer and select Generate Overviews. Press play on the movie below to see how it's done.
